Speaker ABrad Mellor.
Speaker AHello my good friend.
Speaker AWelcome to Daily Bible Refresh with Dr.
Speaker ABrad Miller.
Speaker AThis is the daily visit into the New Testament of the Bible.
Speaker AEvery single day we take a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary.
Speaker AWe're in year C of a three year cycle and we present it to you in a way that is understandable.
Speaker AWe use the message version of the Bible relatable.
Speaker AWe give you some points to ponder and applicable you give you a question to help you to apply it to your life.
Speaker AIt's all brought to you by voiceofgoddaily.com that is the home of the ABC 1, 2, 3 Bible Study Method.
Speaker AWe have a prayer to boot.
Speaker AHope that you'll join me on my mission to get the audible word of God into two millionaires.
Speaker AA million people by 20.
Speaker ALets get into our reading for the day for the gospel of John 10:31 42.
Speaker AReading from the message again.
Speaker AThe Jews picked up rocks to throw at him and Jesus said, I have made a present to you from the Father of a great many actions.
Speaker AFor which of those acts do you stone me?
Speaker AThe Jews said, we're not stoning you for anything good you did, but for what you said.
Speaker AThis blasphemy of calling yourself God.
Speaker AJesus said, I'm only quoting your inspired scriptures where God said, I tell you you're Gods.
Speaker AIf God called your ancestors gods and scripture doesn't lie, why do you yell blasphemer?
Speaker ABlasphemer.
Speaker AAt the unique one the Father consecrated and sent into the world.
Speaker AJust because I said I am the Son of God.
Speaker AIf I don't do the things my Father does well and good, don't believe me.
Speaker ABut if I am doing them, put aside for a moment what you hear me say about myself and just take the evidence of the actions that are right before your eyes.
Speaker AThen perhaps things will come together for you and you'll see that not only are we doing the same thing, we are the same father and son.
Speaker AHe is in me, I am in him.
Speaker AThey tried again yet to arrest him, but he slipped through their fingers and he went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptized and stayed there.
Speaker AA lot of people followed him over.
Speaker AThey were saying John did no miracles, but everything he said about this man has come true.
Speaker AMany believed in him then and there.
Speaker AHmm.
Speaker AWhat an incredible reading of scripture.
Speaker AWe're talking here today about divine identity, understanding our Sacred connection We're going to explore this fascinating confrontation between Jesus and the religious authorities that really speaks to the deeper truths about divine identity and human potential.
Speaker ASo let's talk about some points to ponder.
Speaker AThe first, indeed, is the radical nature of divine or God like identity.
Speaker AJesus quotes scripture saying, you are gods to make a profound point about human potential and divine nature.
Speaker AThis challenges traditional hierarchical relationships between humanity and divinity, suggesting that the divine spark exists within all of us.
Speaker AThis isn't about becoming deity, but recognizing our profound connection to the sacred.
Speaker ANumber two.
Speaker AHis Actions speak Louder than Labels Jesus points to his actions as evidence of his identity, saying, put aside what you hear me say about myself and just take the evidence of the actions.
Speaker AIn our world of performative spirituality and religious labels, this reminds us that authentic faith is demonstrated through transformative action, not mere claims or titles.
Speaker AThe third point to ponder has to do with breaking religious gatekeeping.
Speaker AThe religious authority's reaction demonstrates how institutional power often resists expansive understandings of the divine.
Speaker AJesus challenges their monopoly by defining God and relationships with the divine.
Speaker AThis speaks to contemporary struggles against religious exclusivity and spiritual gatekeeping.
Speaker ALet's talk for a moment about an action step that you can take.
Speaker AReflect on how your actions align with your values, your spiritual values.
Speaker AChoose an area where you can demonstrate your faith through concrete action.
Speaker AThis week, maybe it's by just showing compassion to someone who is in some way different than you, or in some way working for justice, or creating space for marginalized voices in your community.
Speaker AWe're going to come back and have a closing prayer here.
Speaker AJust a moment.
