[00:00:00] Eric Goranson: It's around the house when it comes to remodeling and renovating your home. There is a lot to know, but we've got you covered. This is around the house. Welcome to the round the house show. The next generation of home improvement. Thanks for tuning in today in our weekday special. This is where we put the stuff.
[00:00:36] Eric Goranson: stuff that didn't end up in last weekend show and isn't ending up in this weekend show and happy Memorial Day weekend coming up for everybody here in the U S and remember what we are remembering this weekend. This just isn't a three day holiday for us here. Remember those that gave us so much in this country and thanks for everybody that has.
[00:00:58] Eric Goranson: Now, today I wanted to talk about a [00:01:00] few things. One of them, a quick note on recalls, and this is the episode we usually show off stuff that's happened in the United States that maybe he's recalled that you could have in your house. It could be dangerous. And I tried to grab the big ones out there when they do come out and Electrolux group reannounces a recall of Frigidaire.
[00:01:17] Eric Goranson: And Kenmore electric ranges. Yes. Frigidaire did make a lot of Kenmore ranges during a time there. So that's where you should be concerned due to fire and burn hazards. And this is from consume the consumer product safety commission or CPS go forward slash recalls. If you want to find it for yourself, depending on the model, the surface heating element can either one turn on spontaneously without being switched on or to fail to turn off.
[00:01:43] Eric Goranson: After being switched off or three heat to different temperatures than selected. And of course, this poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers. There are about 203, 000 of these ranges here in the U S so you need to reach out. And [00:02:00] if the range is repairable, free inspection repair will be scheduled. If the range is not repairable, consumers will receive a refund.
[00:02:08] Eric Goranson: In the form of a 50 electronic gift card and reimbursement of up to 60 for the hallway fee of their recall range, which still means you got to go buy another one if it's not repairable. So that tells you there might be some of these since this, these were previously recalled in 2009. They're basically going to give you 50 bucks to go buy another one and 60 to help pay to get rid of it.
[00:02:34] Eric Goranson: Which I guess it's a 20 something year old range probably. So it could be something, but that seems a little out there. You would think that they would be repairable. I don't see why they couldn't be unless it's been burned up or there's some other issues there you'd think that they could just repair it.
[00:02:50] Eric Goranson: Given you 50 bucks. Saying good luck, go buy another 800 range might not be the best plan. So I'm not sure if those guys have the best interest of everybody in mind there, but it is a [00:03:00] towards the end of the life cycle of the range. So I do get that as well. So if you've got one of those, you might want to reach out.
[00:03:04] Eric Goranson: Cause that could turn off and on on its own. It seems. So that's over at consumer product, safety commission. gov, cpsc. gov forward slash recalls. Today, I wanted to talk about something that I'm going to be diving back into again. And I was doing it last fall and I'm going to bring it up again here. There is some horrible information that is going out to you.
[00:03:28] Eric Goranson: The people out there that are trying to tackle a DIY project and just, here's what we're seeing now. And this is part of the bad influencer game. And I see influencers as people on social media. They don't have a media show like I do or a television show. So I'm not really an influencer, but for influencers out there that have their own social media channels, and there are a handful.
[00:03:54] Eric Goranson: Out of the thousands of good people out there that are trying their best. There are a handful and we are going to [00:04:00] highlight these in my opinion, and this is my opinion of who are the frauds out there are the ones that are given bad information, because what we're seeing now is we're seeing some people go out there, create bad content, and it appears.
[00:04:15] Eric Goranson: Or allegedly that they are going out there to do this just to get people to click and say bad things about it. So they're giving off bad information. They're using that algorithm of people commenting to grow their channel. Cause Oh, the algorithms in social media don't understand if it's a helpful or not helpful tip, good or bad information.
[00:04:39] Eric Goranson: They just see it as, Oh, this person's popular. Let's promote it. And so they're making money off of giving you controversial, bad advice, and they're showing everybody that they're making, Hey, look at all the people we have subscribed because people are love watching the fight after they post stuff up and that's [00:05:00] unfortunate because consumers, homeowners, trades, people are wonderful people in our audience, see it on their social media and go, Oh, is that the right way to do it?
[00:05:09] Eric Goranson: And it's completely wrong. And I feel it's wrong on purpose because anybody that has done a project like this before. Would know not to do it that way, or that's the worst shortcut in the world. So these are people out there that are preying off of my audience, you guys out there, as well as everybody else are trying to do it.
[00:05:29] Eric Goranson: And the first highlight is someone that I was highlighting earlier on, and they've just seemed to double down on the bad DIY advice. And this is Jeff over there at home Renovation DIY out of Canada. And I tell you what, there is. Some of the worst home improvement. I think he's my number one worst on the internet right now, as far as giving off bad advice, so I'm going to be creating some videos on this just so you guys can check it out there so I can give you some reaction [00:06:00] videos.
[00:06:00] Eric Goranson: Again, I did some here earlier on this year, and I'm going to start doing these again, because again, I am not going to put up with out there. These people that are giving bad advice just to make money off of it. And then everybody goes out and tries to do it. They go, why didn't this work? It's because they purposely, from what I feel gave you bad advice.
[00:06:19] Eric Goranson: So we're going to be exposing that off and on here. I'm trying not to keep this negative. But I just want to show you some of this bad advice out there. So you can really pay attention to where you're getting your sources from. And there are some great people out there that I love on social media to give off absolutely amazing advice.
[00:06:40] Eric Goranson: And that could be Sarah Listie, Tool Girls Garage, Brent Gentling from BYOT. And the list goes on and on of people out there that are absolutely amazing for giving off great home improvement advice. So I will continue to keep highlighting the good ones and showing you also the ones [00:07:00] out there that I would not follow because they're either not going to meet building code or it's just the wrong way to do it.
[00:07:07] Eric Goranson: Now, I wanted to give a tip here to all you guys out there, uh, we're creeping into summertime. Uh, it's been really cool the last few days here in Portland, Oregon. We actually got rained out of some of our shoot yesterday for the TV show, but not a big deal. We'll get knocked out for this weekend show. But here's what I would do about this time of year is I would start looking at your summer pest control to make sure that you're on it about right now.
[00:07:32] Eric Goranson: Making sure that all of the little holes are filled up and there's some great spray foam out there that is a pest blocker. Just look up pest blocker when you're buying your spray foam that makes it so the rodents and bugs won't go through it. They put, I don't know if they put in chemicals or if it's just basically like a hot pepper in there so that doesn't get eaten up.
[00:07:54] Eric Goranson: But they make it so it's not penetrable by any of these animals out there, like mice, [00:08:00] rats, even ants and that kind of stuff. They seal it up, but the cool thing with this is if you go around right now and get it sealed up, you'll get that under control. And then I would start your wasp, hornet, yellow jacket traps now and spend the money, get after them before they start building those nests.
[00:08:16] Eric Goranson: Because by the time it's July, August, September, they're already well established and you're behind the game. So now it's the time to get out there, get the flies under control. Take a look out there. And here's one that I run into a lot in my area because I live in a forest, but watch out for those carpenter bees.
[00:08:32] Eric Goranson: If they're in your neighborhood, they look a lot like, like your bumblebees flying around the big fuzzy ones, but you'll notice they're more black. Those things will nest in wood and they can do a lot of. Damage to wet wood. So if you've got wet wood out there and you're like, Oh, look at all these black bumblebees.
[00:08:49] Eric Goranson: Those could be carpenter bees. And they will make a perfectly round hole in a beam sighting anywhere else. It's wet a side of your shed, wherever. So take a look at those [00:09:00] and they do make traps specifically for those so you can do that. Rescue's got a lot of great stuff there. And I would get after all of those things for your, your spring pest control into the summer, because to tell you what, Last year we had a bad one and they're saying this year could be even worse.
[00:09:15] Eric Goranson: And I want to make sure that I've got them under control right now. So doing more to get that dialed in is going to be better off. All right, everybody stay safe out there. Have a great and safe Memorial day weekend. I am going to be having a brand new show on this weekend, but I'm also going to be taking some much deserved time off.
[00:09:31] Eric Goranson: Heck, I got a three day week and that rarely happens, which I do enjoy. And that lets me actually go out and finish up some of my own projects. So check out for some social media this weekend. I'm sure I'll be doing stuff out there as well. I'm Eric G and thanks for tuning into around the house. We'll see you on Saturday.[00:10:00]
