Speaker A

Let me ask you this.

Speaker A

How many wellness trends have you tried over the years?

Speaker A

The miracle diet, the 30 day challenge, the new supplement that promises to change everything.

Speaker A

When I turned 50, I thought wellness meant chasing every one of those trends.

Speaker A

And of course, I couldn't keep up.

Speaker A

Now, at 62, I've learned wellness isn't about keeping up with trends.

Speaker A

It's about small, consistent choices that sustain you.

Speaker A

And that's the blueprint I want to share with you today.

Speaker A

Hey, friend, who says aging has to mean slowing down?

Speaker A

Around here, we're all about embracing this chapter with grace, style, and just the right touch of sass.

Speaker A

Welcome to the Aging with Grace in Style podcast.

Speaker A

I'm Valerie Hatcher.

Speaker A

Your guide to empowering tips, inspiring stories, and a whole lot of laughs for women over 50.

Speaker A

So grab your favorite drink, turn up the volume, and let's dive in.

Speaker A

This is the final part of the Gracefully well series.

Speaker A

Over the past three episodes, we've talked about the mind, the body, and the soul.

Speaker A

And today we're going to tie it all together.

Speaker A

I want to leave you not just inspired, but with something that's practical.

Speaker A

Your your very own wellness blueprint.

Speaker A

Wellness without a plan can feel like chaos.

Speaker A

You wake up with good intentions, but by the end of the day, you feel like you failed.

Speaker A

And really, it's not that you failed, it's that you didn't have a framework to guide you.

Speaker A

Think about building a house.

Speaker A

The blueprint doesn't decide what colors the pillows will be, but it makes sure that the foundation and the walls are strong.

Speaker A

Without it, you're guessing and you're patching as you go.

Speaker A

And eventually things are going to collapse.

Speaker A

That was me.

Speaker A

For years.

Speaker A

I'd bounce from diet to diet or try the latest 21 day challenge.

Speaker A

And maybe you've done it, too, going all in on something only to feel overwhelmed or burnt out a month later.

Speaker A

I remember one January.

Speaker A

Because, you know, January is the time for fresh starts.

Speaker A

I bought a brand new planner, signed up for an online workout program, stocked my fridge with salads, the whole nine yards.

Speaker A

By February, girl, I was so burned out, the planner was empty and I was back to square one.

Speaker A

What made the difference for me was realizing that I didn't need someone else's plan.

Speaker A

I needed a framework that worked for my life.

Speaker A

Something that was flexible but steady.

Speaker A

Have you been there?

Speaker A

Monday morning, motivation is high, but by Friday, life's demands take over.

Speaker A

Without a blueprint, you're relying on willpower alone.

Speaker A

And willpower always runs out.

Speaker A

That's what makes a Blueprint different.

Speaker A

It's not rigid.

Speaker A

It's not perfection.

Speaker A

It's about having guide rails that help you come back again and again.

Speaker A

Your wellness blueprint rests on three pillars.

Speaker A

Mind, body, and soul.

Speaker A

And what's powerful is how they work together, not separately, but think of them as a team.

Speaker A

So mind.

Speaker A

Your mind is the architect of your choices.

Speaker A

If your thoughts are scattered, your actions will be, too.

Speaker A

I've had days where my brain was so cluttered that I walked into a room, totally forgot why I was in there twice.

Speaker A

That's when I knew I needed to do something different.

Speaker A

Now I write down tomorrow's top three priorities the night before.

Speaker A

It takes five minutes, but it changes everything about how I start my day.

Speaker A

And then there's your body.

Speaker A

Your body is the vehicle that carries you through life, and it responds to every choice that you make.

Speaker A

The food you eat, the sleep that you get, the movement you do or you don't do.

Speaker A

Taking the stairs, choosing water, stretching while the coffee brews.

Speaker A

Those are the blueprint habits.

Speaker A

Just last week, I noticed how much better I felt on the days that I drank water before coffee instead of after.

Speaker A

It's the small things that matter.

Speaker A

Who think that that would make a difference.

Speaker A

The vehicle.

Speaker A

Your body runs smoother when you give it what it needs.

Speaker A

And your soul, Your soul is the fuel.

Speaker A

It's where your peace and meaning come from.

Speaker A

Without it, the other two pillars, they just feel empty.

Speaker A

Soul care can look like gratitude before bed, a moment of stillness in the morning, or laughing with a friend.

Speaker A

When your soul is nourished, your mind has focus and your body has energy.

Speaker A

I'll never forget one especially heavy day when I stopped everything, sat quietly, and listed just five things that I was grateful for.

Speaker A

It didn't change my circumstances, but what it did do was it lightened the weight that I was carrying.

Speaker A

Here's the thing.

Speaker A

The blueprint doesn't ask you to be perfect with each pillar.

Speaker A

It simply asks you to give each one some attention and do it every day.

Speaker A

When you do, they strengthen each other, and that's balance.

Speaker A

Now, let's talk about building your blueprint.

Speaker A

Here are four steps.

Speaker A

Number one.

Speaker A

Choose one small habit per pillar.

Speaker A

Not ten, not five, just one.

Speaker A

So for your mind, maybe it's journaling each morning.

Speaker A

For your body, Maybe it's walking 10 minutes after dinner.

Speaker A

And for your soul, maybe it's sending a gratitude text to someone that you love.

Speaker A

And then step two is to anchor your habits to your routines.

Speaker A

This is called habit stacking.

Speaker A

So link the new to the old.

Speaker A

I Write my gratitude list while my coffee brews some mornings.

Speaker A

Some people stretch while brushing their teeth.

Speaker A

I even know someone who does squats while waiting for the microwave.

Speaker A

The point is, the anchor makes it stick.

Speaker A

Step three Track your progress.

Speaker A

You don't need a fancy app.

Speaker A

And trust me, I've tried probably every app to track and to monitor.

Speaker A

But a sticky note or a calendar or a notebook?

Speaker A

Those work.

Speaker A

Every check mark reminds you that you're building momentum.

Speaker A

Give yourself grace.

Speaker A

This might be the most important step.

Speaker A

Life happens.

Speaker A

You gonna miss some days?

Speaker A

I've missed plenty.

Speaker A

But missing a day doesn't mean failure.

Speaker A

It just means that tomorrow is another chance.

Speaker A

Last spring I overhauled everything at once.

Speaker A

Working out every day.

Speaker A

No sugar.

Speaker A

Journaling, prayer, stretching.

Speaker A

I lasted about a week before I gave up because it was too much.

Speaker A

Just being too aggressive and wanting to do it all doesn't work.

Speaker A

So I scaled back.

Speaker A

One mindful walk a week.

Speaker A

One brain dump in the morning or sometimes in the evening.

Speaker A

One gratitude list during the day.

Speaker A

And guess what?

Speaker A

That stuck.

Speaker A

That gave me peace.

Speaker A

That's the power of a blueprint.

Speaker A

So here's what my blueprint looks like in a day, give or take a few things.

Speaker A

So in the morning, before I even check my phone.

Speaker A

Because I really am intentional about not checking my phone when I first wake up.

Speaker A

So I may journal for five minutes or I definitely wake up and pray and be thankful for just even waking up.

Speaker A

Sometimes it's when I journal, I'm journaling about frustrations, but I don't have many frustrations.

Speaker A

When I first wake up in the morning, sometimes I'm journaling about plans.

Speaker A

Sometimes it's an affirmation like I am resilient.

Speaker A

Then, while the coffee brews, I write down three things that I'm grateful for.

Speaker A

And then midday I try to move, depending on how the work schedule is looking.

Speaker A

Some days it's a walk around the block that's weather dependent.

Speaker A

Or it could be a walk on my treadmill.

Speaker A

There are some days I just get on the treadmill on a slow speed and I just walk to get moving.

Speaker A

And then some days I may be dancing in my office or dancing in the kitchen while I'm making my lunch.

Speaker A

Meals are about protein and greens, but also adding a little flavor to it.

Speaker A

I believe that food should be nourishment and joy.

Speaker A

And then in the evenings I do.

Speaker A

I admit I do a lot of work in the evenings because that's how I keep up with everything that I am juggling.

Speaker A

But then I do also try to find time to unplug at some point during the evening, to breathe deeply, and to sit in stillness, even if it's just for five minutes.

Speaker A

I've gotten really good about doing this at bedtime.

Speaker A

Sometimes it's prayer, other times it's silence.

Speaker A

Every night it's a reset.

Speaker A

Now your blueprint.

Speaker A

It might look different.

Speaker A

Say, if you're caring for grandkids, then maybe your blueprint is gratitude while you're rocking them to sleep.

Speaker A

If you're balancing a busy career, then maybe it's stretching between meetings or taking a walk on your lunch break.

Speaker A

If you're retired, then maybe your blueprint is about carving out stillness in a slower rhythm of life.

Speaker A

The point is, your blueprint doesn't have to look like mine.

Speaker A

It just has to work for you.

Speaker A

So here's my challenge.

Speaker A

Design your own blueprint this week.

Speaker A

Keep it simple and keep it flexible.

Speaker A

And of course you know we're going to have a journal prompt.

Speaker A

So here's your prompt.

Speaker A

What's one small habit that you can commit to for your mind, your body and your soul this week?

Speaker A

Where can you create more space for peace in your daily routine?

Speaker A

Close your eyes for a moment.

Speaker A

Imagine living this blueprint for a week.

Speaker A

Waking up clear minded because you journaled the night before, feeling lighter because you moved your body, resting easier because you ended your day with gratitude.

Speaker A

That's the power of intentional choices.

Speaker A

So today we built your wellness blueprint.

Speaker A

We talked about why you need one how mind, body and soul work together and the small steps that make it sustainable.

Speaker A

And with this, we've wrapped up the Gracefully well series.

Speaker A

We've covered the mind, the body, the soul, and now the framework that ties it all together.

Speaker A

If you remember nothing else, remember this.

Speaker A

Wellness isn't about doing more.

Speaker A

It's about doing what matters most consistently, gracefully and with compassion for yourself.

Speaker A

If this series has inspired you to care for yourself more intentionally, then share it with a friend so she too can build her own blueprint.
